Police to crackdown on drink at Band Contest in Saddleworth

Police in Saddleworth have warned people planning to attend the Whit Friday Band Contest that they will be asked for ID if they’re seen drinking.

Police will be challenging any person appearing to be U18 without ID and either in possession of alcohol or under the influence of the same at this year’s Whit Friday Band Contest.

Dip sticks will be used to test for alcohol in soft drink containers and action will be taken if detected.

In a statement GMP have said: “We hope that our community support us in this stance to make the event enjoyable for “.

They’ve launched a hashtag on Twitter ahead of the event #brassnotbeer.
