A man has been rushed to hospital for treatment to injuries sustained after being involved in a five-car collision in Heywood shortly after this morning’s rush hour (Tuesday 18th June).
It was at around 9.40am when emergency services were called to Rochdale Road East, near the junction with Barley Hall Street, following reports of a crash involving a number of cars.
Police have confirmed the man injured during the crash suffered neck and back injuries but was conscious and breathing when he was transported to hospital.
One of the cars involved, which included a bronze Toyota Verso, a blue Mondeo, a white Mini, a grey Ford Focus and a white BMW, left the road as a result of the impact and struck an electricity pylon.
Rochdale Road East was closed in both directions while the situation was dealt with but it has since reopened.
In a statement Greater Manchester Police said: “We were called at 9.40am to reports a man had been hit by a car. Five cars have also collided.
"The man is conscious and breathing. He has been taken to hospital with back and neck injuries."
