Theresa May has announced she will step down as Prime Minister today (Friday 24th May 2019).
Mrs May said it was a matter of "deep regret" that she had been unable to deliver Brexit.
Local MP’s have had their say about the future of the country when Theresa May moves aside for a new leader on 7th June.
Rochdale’s MP Tony Lloyd said, “I suppose in the end Theresa May going was inevitable although in the beginning the mistake she clearly did make was reaching out only to the conservative party to try to build the consensus around Brexit, instead of reaching out across parliament and through parliament across the country.”
The Prime Minister has come under renewed pressure this week after she announced plans to bring her Withdrawal Bill back to parliament for a third time - albeit with changes.
Stalybridge and Hyde’s MP, Jonathan Reynolds said, “I am worried for the future in terms of what will come after her and it looks like that will be Boris Johnson and the agenda that he might pursue I think could be one that is very damaging indeed for the country.”
