Boy charged after girl is spat at and racially abused on Oldham tram

Detectives investigating an incident on the Metrolink network back in March have charged a teenage boy in connection with it.

It was shortly after 6.30pm on Saturday the 30th March when the 17-year old girl and her family were travelling on the tram from Victoria Station to Oldham when a boy began confronting the girls’ mother.

After she intervened, the boy spat at her and subjected her to racist abuse.

Officers have now charged a 16-year old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in connection with the incident, he’s due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on Monday 24th July accused of racially aggravated common assault.
