Rochdale will be without the nervous last game of the season this time around after they secured their place in League One for next season thanks to a 1-0 win at home to Southend United.
Heading into the game at the Crown Oil Arena, Dale knew that all they needed was a single point to be sure of their place in the division when the next campaign got underway.
But thanks to their captain they did better than that.
The victory moved Brian Barry-Murphy’s men seven points clear of the bottom four with only one game left.
Rochdale were quick out of the blocks, backed by a bumper crowd, with Aaron Wilbraham having the best early chance after only 16 minutes but he headed wide from 10-yards out.
Dale’s Josh Lillis was next to be called into action, tipping Taylor Moore’s attempted over the cross-bar.
It would remain goalless at halftime but Rochdale got the goal their performance deserved less than ten minutes after the restart.
Ethan Hamilton saw his shot saved but Henderson was in the right place at the right time to slot home to rebound from close range.
Dale then managed to hold off late Southend pressure with the final whistle greeted by cheers from the stands and celebrations from those on the pitch as Rochdale confirmed their place in League One.
The victory leaves Dale 14th, next up for them is a final trip to Charlton Athletic on 4th May to bring the curtain down on their campaign.
