While Rochdale celebrate securing their League One status two members of the club have something else to celebrate as well.
Both manager Brian Barry-Murphy and Jim McNulty have been nominated for the manager and player of the month awards for April.
Barry-Murphy took the reins at the Crown Oil Arena following the departure of Keith Hill with Dale second bottom of League One and staring relegation in the face.
Since then though he’s guided the team to a record which has only seen them beaten twice and confirm their place in the league by beating Southend United last weekend.
Speaking about his nomination the EFL have said: “Brian Barry-Murphy (Rochdale)
Made his players believe they could put together a run of results that would drag them clear of the relegation places. Instilled the defensive confidence to keep four clean sheets and fully earned the manager’s job on a permanent basis.”
Barry-Murphy will be up against Charlton Athletic’s Lee Bowyer, Kenny Jackett from Portsmouth and Daniel Stendel from Barnsley for the award.
Meanwhile Jim McNulty will also be hoping his name is called on Friday morning (3rd April) for the EFL League Player of the Month.
The defender has been described by the league as “The rock at the heart of a defence which tightened up in April and kept four clean sheets in six games. Brave and whole-hearted, he reads the game superbly – witness his goal-line clearance against Wycombe which set up Dale’s 1-0 victory.”
He'll be up against Alex Mowatt from Barnsley, Joe Pigott from AFC Wimbledon and Charlton Athletic’s Lyle Taylor.
The winners of both the manager and player of the month for April will be announced on Friday morning (3rd April).
