Keith Hill had to wait until moments before full time to see his side claim a vital three points as they head into the Christmas period on the back of a 2-1 victory at Southend United.
The game seemed to be slipping toward a draw after the Shrimpers pegged Dale back in the final ten minutes but Callum Camps had other ideas.
Rochdale came close to opening the scoring in the early stages of the game but Joe Rafferty saw his volley narrowly clear the crossbar.
Dale didn’t have to wait long for their opener though, just 23 minutes were on the watch when Jordan Williams outmuscled Elvis Bwomono down the left side before he sprinted into the box, firing a low shot beyond Nathan Bishop in Southend’s net.
Southend brought the sides level just nine minutes from time through John White, as the defender rose the highest to head home from Sam Mantom’s left-wing cross.
However Rochdale wouldn’t be denied just three minutes from the end Callum Camps got his head to Ian Henderson’s cross to secure all three points for Dale.
Next up for Keith Hill’s men is a visit from Blackpool on Boxing Day.
