Rochdale Football Club have announced their pre-season friendly at home to Blackburn Rovers has been called off over fears for the pitch at the Crown Oil Arena.
The game was due to be played on Sunday (14th July) 24-hours after Rochdale Hornets hosted Toulouse Olympique in Rugby League’s Championship.
After the weekend the surface was then due to have three football matches, three Rugby League games and four Rochdale fixtures played on it over the course of the next month as the new football season kicked off.
The club have said: “Summer pitch renovations started around 10 days later than we would have ideally liked, but the condition of the pitch is concurrent with that timescale, so there are no concerns surrounding the playing surface, other than the demanding schedule that the fixture list has placed on it.”
Anyone who purchased a ticket for the game against Blackburn Rovers are entitled to a full refund from the club’s ticket office.
Rochdale have also advised that the friendly against Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night (17th July) will still go ahead as planned.
