Less than six months after leaving Oldham Athletic, Ryan McLaughlin has returned to our patch, this time signing an 18-month deal at Rochdale.
The 24-year old arrives at the Crown Oil Arena on a deal until the summer of 2020 for an undisclosed fee from Blackpool.
The versatile right-back, who can play in a number of different positions, started his career at Glenavon before joining Liverpool’s academy at 16-years of age.
After spending three years at Anfield, he moved onto Oldham Athletic in 2016, where he made over 60 appearances for Latics before leaving in the summer to join the seasiders.
McLaughlin, who has appeared for Northern Ireland at various levels, has won five caps for their national side during his career so far.
Speaking to Rochdale’s official website, McLaughlin said: “I’m really excited and delighted to be here.”
“I’ve played against Rochdale over the last two or three years, so I know the brand of football that the team plays and I think it suits me.”
“I’ve played League One football for the last few seasons so I know what the league is about. I know I can do well for the team – it’s just about proving that.”
“I can’t wait to get started.”
